Regulations & Compliance

BaFin Authorisation

Money transfer providers operating in Germany must be authorised by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) as a payment institution under the Payment Services Supervision Act (ZAG).

GwG / AML Reporting

The Money Laundering Act (GwG) requires providers to report suspicious activity to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). Identity verification is mandatory for transfers above EUR 1,000 (cash) or EUR 15,000 (other).

SEPA vs SWIFT

Within the SEPA zone (EU + a few others) transfers are typically free or very cheap. For non-SEPA destinations, EUR transfers run on SWIFT and providers add a margin to the EUR/destination currency rate.
